Jim Clark Memorial Rally 1999

Timetable

[Jim Clark]

The SEAT Jim Clark Memorial Rally

Jim Clark was from the Berwickshire countryside around Duns. A sportsman and a gentleman, he won two Grand Prix World Championships and many other races.

There has been a major annual rally in Duns since 1970. Roger Clark, Ari Vatanen, Robbie Head and Russell Brookes are all past winners of the event.

The only rally in mainland Britain to be staged and closed on public roads, the SEAT Jim Clark Memorial Rally was made possible by an act of Parliament. The compact special stages make the Jim Clark Rally both fast and demanding.

Historic Rally Championship

For cars older than December 1967, the Historic Rally gives the chance to see a superb range of vehicles from around the world. Although Porsche 911 drivers have won every championship so far, recent years have seen Minis, Triumph TRs, Heralds, Spitfires and Vitesses, Volvo PV544 and Amazons, Ford Anglias and Zephyrs, Hillman Imps, Saab 96s, a Sonnet, Morgan Plus Fours, MGBs, Lotus Elans, Austin Healey 3000s, Sunbeam Tigers and Alpine Renaults. This year, Ford Escort and RS will be seen in the post-Historic category.

Formula 1400

Friday evening sees the Formula 1400 Championship (formerly National Colway Tyres Junior Rally Championship). With lower costs involved, Formula 1400 is seen as a stepping stone for talented young drivers.
