Boston Court

Sheltered housing on the site of Boston Church

4. Boston Court

This sheltered housing complex received an architectural award in 1990. It is built on the site of the Boston Church. The Church Bell, named "Drumclog", dated 1892, is mounted outside and is worth close inspection.

5. Duns Public Park

The land on which the park was created was bought in 1891 with money gifted by Mr Andrew Smith of Winchester. Sir James Miller of Manderston presented the gates and railings, levelled the entire area and landscaped it. Items of note include a bronze statue in memory of the philosopher, John Duns Scotus. Born in Duns in 1266, he became a Franciscan and was known as subtle doctor. The Pope declared him "Venerable" in 1991. This may be the first step towards Sainthood.

NB: You should now walk towards the Bowling Green and take the pathway leading up towards Market Square. The lane is called Blinkbonnie, meaning a pleasant place.
